Undergraduate Catalog
and the appropriate advising link on the CoEd home page.
All undergraduates seeking certification in grades EC-6 must take the following
sequence of 3 mathematics courses, intended to prepare students
mathematically to teach mathematics:
- Math

for preservice mathematics teachers, including topics in place value,
operations, representations of numbers, and number theory. Prerequisite:
college algebra (or equivalent placement) and consent of instructor (clearance
required to register).
- Math
1331: Geometric Inference and Reasoning, a problem-solving course in
two- and three-dimensional geometry and measurement. Prerequisite: Math
1330.
- Math
1332: Functions, Data and Applications, a problem-solving course in
mathematical modeling and data analysis, including some probability and
statistics and use of modeling software. Prerequisite: Math 1330.
Students must also take one of the following two methods courses, intended
to prepare students pedagogically to teach mathematics:
- ELED 4311: Math and Science for Young Children,
an early childhood (preK-4) combined math and science methods course.
at the undergraduate and graduate levels, respectively.
ELED 4311 is part of the ELED internship block (see course catalog).
- BEEP 4311:
Math and Science in Dual Language Settings, a version of ECED 4311
for students seeking certification for bilingual classrooms.
BEEP 4311 is part of the BEEP internship block.
- ELED 5319: Early Education: Instructional Strategies I,
